How TruSens Air Purifiers Work

Shop TruSens Air PurifiersHow TruSens Air Purifiers Work

Aerosols smaller than 50 microns can float in the air long enough to be inhaled, we know that the coronavirus is only 0.1 microns in diameter, making it capable of lingering in the air for minutes to hours. This poses a threat for poorly ventilated indoor spaces such as offices and classrooms. As small particles not only stay around longer, they build-up.

With TruSens Air Purifier’s you can remove contaminates including COVID-19 from the air.

TruSens Air Purifiers work by sucking up the air in an indoor space, including particles such as viruses and allergens like pollen and dust. The air goes through multiple layers of protection; a HEPA active carbon filter which traps particles and a UV-C light which kills germs and bacteria trapped in the filter. This ensures that the air dispersed from the purifier is clean and safe.

The large and medium models also include a SensorPod Air Quality Monitor. This tool is useful for providing superior pollutant detection throughout the space a unit is being used. Most traditional purifiers use built-in sensors which only detect pollutants near the purifier, by placing the SensorPod away from the unit you can provide greater coverage, optimising clean air delivery.

What is a HEPA filter?

HEPA stands for High efficiency particulate air (filter) which is a type of filter that removes at least 99.95% of particles equal to 0.3 microns. COVID-19 is 0.1 microns, however, because they travel inside larger water particles, they are typically 0.3 micron.

TurSens HEPA filters use activated carbon. Activated carbon is carbon that has been through a procedure that increases its surface area, making it better at capturing molecules. It captures pollutants through a process called adsorption, this is when pollutants stick to the outside of the carbon instead of being absorbed in.

What is UV-C light

UV-C light is short wave UV radiation that inactivates micro-organisms including COVID-19 by breaking down chemical bonds. Within seconds it can cause them to no longer multiply.

UV-C disinfection works because UV light in this spectrum (200nm to 300nm) is absorbed by DNA, RNA and proteins. It is the absorption through micro-organism DNA that causes inactivation because the cell can no longer replicate. The UV-C light is safe for humans because it is contained inside the Air Purifier unit, wrapped around by its HEPA filter.
